Baroque-Style Mirror Panel - IKEA Hack

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you a project I just finished and I must confess it’s one of my favorites up to now!

Voilà  my Baroque-Style Mirror Panel

I created it by using one of the left-over doors from my IKEA Brusali High Cabinet, I hacked a while back – blog post on the way!

For this project, I drew my inspiration from a wonderful door panel I saw on THE MET Museum’s site.

I have to say that it was the first time I used my Prima IOD stamps and moulds and I am totally in love with them!!!

First, I used some wood putty to fill the holes on the door. Then I sanded the whole panel with a 100 grit sandpaper.

I used air-dry clay, to create all the decorative elements.
I glued everything with E6000 glue.

To create the mirror, I cut a piece of acetate, from a toy box. Then I sprayed three layers of Pentart Mirror Mist for Plastic. While the third layer was still wet, I used a piece of kitchen roll paper to lift some of the paint and create some scratches. I painted those scratches with Marigold Yellow and Burnt Umber and when everything was dry, I applied a coat of Chalky Finish Carbon.

I applied Chalky Finish Carbon to the whole surface, and then I created many layers by applying various color glazes with a natural sea sponge and working the paint with a flat dry brush. I created the glazes by mixing Chalky Finish paints with glazing medium.

At the end I gave the whole piece a “dirty wash” with a mixture of Media Paynes Grey, Transparent Yellow and Red Iron Oxide.
I sealed my panel with Americana Decor Soft Touch Varnish.
