Modern Deity

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you a new project I created for my participation to Prima Design Team Call. #PrimaDTCall

As a Greek, I am always fascinated by my country’s ancient history and civilization and very often I draw my inspiration from myths about ancient gods and heroes.

I had this curvy glass bottle in my kitchen, for so long, that I couldn’t even remember where I had found it. Then, one day I realized that its shape reminded me of the Minoan snake goddess.

This magnificent figurine was found in the palace of Knossos by the British archaeologist Arthur Evans. It is being displayed at the Archeological Museum of Herakleion, Crete.

I started wondering how a contemporary goddess would look like, what she would symbolize, what kind of story she would tell to the future generations about our time.

This is how I imagined her to be and I really hope you like it!

It measures 15.5 inches high and 6 inches wide.

To give the statue a triangular shape from the waist down, I used a lot of aluminum foil and Tesa aluminum tape. Then I started sculpting the head and bust with polymer clay. I heat set it in the oven.
I used cotton fabric and gauze for the clothes.

I imagined her being a mechanical goddess, so I gave her a body made of pc parts and metallic finds, mostly Prima Mechanicals Metal Embellishments. 1 glued them with Art Basics Heavy Body Gel.

I applied a coat of Art Basics Heavy Gesso White tinted with a bit of red and yellow acrylic paint, all over the body and clothes.

I coated the mechanical parts with Art Basics Heavy Gesso Black mixed with Rusty Paper paint from Viva Décor.

1 painted the statue with acrylic paints in Red and Yellow Iron Oxide, Marigold Yellow, Raw Umber and Titan Buff. I also used Lindy’s Starburst Spray in Copper Brown.

Thank you for visiting my blog!

Until next time
